Nick Buchanan
- CFO
- Nashville Metro
I have spent nearly 25 years working in various areas of finance for large and mid-sized corporations. I've managed several small teams and have worked on projects with all departments within the companies. Most of my experience has been with healthcare-focused companies which included understanding drug manufacturing, medical devices, and research software platforms.
Before FocusCFO
Prior to joining FocusCFO, Nick's previous three roles involved joining a growing company that had no banking or Treasury function. It was Nick's job to create Cash Flow Forecast models from scratch and establish a forward-looking process to make high level business decisions about investments and borrowing. He has worked extensively with the Accounting, Payables, Receivables, Tax, Marketing, and Legal groups to develop an effective picture of a company's financial outlook.
Nick received his MBA from Seton Hall University (West Orange, NJ) while also working full-time. Prior to that, he earned his undergraduate degree with a focus in Business Administration from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, PA).
- What is your favorite way to spend free time? I love to run. It's time that I don't have to think about anything else and I can get some fresh air. I can challenge myself, or just cruise and enjoy the scenery.
- What is at the top of your "bucket list"? There's a lot on this list between completing a triathlon, learning ASL, seeing the northern lights, but perhaps the quirkiest is that I'd love to see a live Sumo wrestling match! I feel there is such art and beauty in what seems like a simple sport.
- What did you want to be when you grew up? When I was a kid, I wanted to be a fireman. I knew that they helped people and put others before self. As I grew up I found different ways to serve others, but I'd still love to slide down a fireman's pole just one time!
Other Interests
What attracted you
to FocusCFO?
What attracted me the most to this role was the chance to be able to support small and medium-sized businesses. My mother raised me and she was (and still is) a small business owner, and so was her mother before that. I love working with my hands and have started my own woodworking service. I have great respect for anyone who works hard to create something of their own and provide a service to society. I want to enable those people to achieve more in their business ventures so they can reach more people.
