Russ has more than 25 years of executive financial and operational leadership experience in many industries including Manufacturing, Construction, Distribution and Healthcare, working with small and mid-sized privately held family and private-equity businesses. His work included developing and purchasing complimentary lines of business and companies and improving financial and operational activities
Before FocusCFO
Prior to joining FocusCFO, Russ spent 16 years in healthcare finance with HCA and Ernst & Young,consulting with various acute-care and other healthcare delivery businesses on complex reimbursement issues. He also served as CFO of a 149-bed hospital in Thomasville North Carolina. Russ transitioned his experiences to privately held and family-owned businesses in manufacturing and distribution where he served as CFO for various mid-sized domestic companies, successfully improving their financial KPI reporting, cash flows, banking relationships and debt structure, including successfully bringing two privately held companies through Bankruptcy 363 sale to privately equity investors.
Russ also served as the executive CFO and Vice President for 2 international manufacturing companies leading their North American operations in the roofing and the automotive industry, respectively. Most recently, he served as VP Finance for Virginia Transformer Corporation, the largest domestic manufacturer of transformers in the North American continent with 5 manufacturing plants in the US and Mexico and an international administrative office in India, vastly improving their finance/accounting and manufacturing operations, including FP&A, internal controls, risk management, cost accounting, and treasury functions.
Russ received his MBA, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, in 2020 from Syracuse University and previously received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Mississippi. He obtained his CPA license in 1989 in the state of Tennessee.
- What was your favorite vacation? My wife and I enjoyed visiting Northern Italy in Baveno and Stressa on Lake Maggiore.
- What is your favorite way to spend free time? I enjoy visiting Virginia's many vineyards with my wife, Ellen. I also enjoy playing golf and getting engulfed with the Civil war battlefield stories.
