Bill McVickers

  • CFO
  • Cincinnati Metro

Bill is a life-long student of business with over 40 years’ experience. A senior financial professional by training, with an MBA in Executive Management. Experience in Manufacturing, Distribution, IT Consulting, Operations, Financial Services. Companies worked for include SMBs. Privately held and subsidiaries of larger companies. Early growth and well established. An Appreciative Inquirer and Systems Thinker.

Before FocusCFO

Bill’s career progressed through the usual financial rank, up through to Director of Finance and VP of Finance at two of the more recent companies he worked for. In his mid-career, he went on a “professional walkabout” where he was deeply immersed in various start-up and early growth pursuits. While those walkabout years brought a new, broader, level of business acumen, he was ultimately pulled to his roots in financial management.

Bill has worked for many companies, including well known names like DayGlo Color, Sandvik (at a subsidiary), Tremco, and National City Bank. He has also worked with some great local, privately held companies.

    Other Interests

    • What did you want to be when you grew up?  An accountant. Seriously! When I was young, I thought "I want to be in business someday." Had no idea what that might look like. Back then, you followed either a financial or a sales/marketing path. My personality slanted towards the financial. I took my first business class in junior high and first accounting in high school and never looked back.
    • What is your favorite way to spend free time?  My favorite things over the years have been outdoors- bicycling, paddling (mostly canoe), and climbing (mostly rock), camping along the way. More recent years have me continually upgrading our house, as I am an avid DIYer.
    • What is at the top of your "bucket list"?  Find a piece of land by some water and build a cabin. Looking for that all elusive place to escape to...

What attracted you
to FocusCFO?

I am a life-long student of business. My formal education spans nearly forty years. I am a curator of the things that I have learned and experienced during this journey. The opportunity to apply my skills and share my journey with other business owners to help them succeed is what drew me to FocusCFO.
